This week we head east in a counterclockwise direction to roads we love to ride. We’ll ride through San Marcos to the outskirts of Escondido, then north into Valley Center (descending on Champagne), east to Bonsall, and return through Vista back to Gelson’s.
51.5 miles, 3460′
Water/rest stop will be at the Arco station in Bonsall
PLEASE BE PREPARED WITH THE ROUTE. If you do not have a navigational-compatible bike computer, print the route from Ride with GPS.
Here’s the question on everyone’s mind: How fast is this ride?
Here’s the answer: It’s as fast or slow as you want it to be. In the past, we have had a mix of very fast riders along with newer riders, but mostly we have people in between. Some people missed their Saturday ride and have fresh legs, some people have tired legs. Somehow the ride works. Two or three groups will form, and people will look out for each other. The plan is to stick together for the first 5-7 miles, and then allow those that are looking for a faster workout to break off. But also, be ready to take care of yourself if necessary: Be prepared with the route, bring flat-fixing gear, and proper nutrition.
If you like to plan ahead, this is the schedule of our upcoming training rides. Distance will increase by about 5 miles each week.
